2026 marks the 30th anniversary of FORWARD, one of the true pillars of Japanese hardcore. To honor those three decades, this tribute album has arrived.
The bands taking part represent only a fraction of the friendships FORWARD has built over 30 years. Even so, allies from all across Japan have come together here. They’re joined from overseas by two bands FORWARD grew close to on their US tours, an essential chapter in the band’s history.
Every band chose its own song. Bands of different styles each took on FORWARD’s songs in their own way. Some stay faithful to the originals, while others reveal a completely different side. Which song got which treatment, and how was it reborn? Hear it for yourself.
Closing the album is “What’s The Difference,” a brand-new song from FORWARD themselves. Here is the scene’s answer to a band that has kept moving forward for 30 years without stopping, and FORWARD’s own answer back: where they stand right now.
